We have had a few opportunities to be a guest/judge at The Kitchen Apprentice Program organised by Transcorp Hilton, Abuja
It is such an awesome event and always an evening to look forward to.
Transcorp Hilton is definitely one organization that is committed to skill acquisition and training as part of their corporate social responsibility, and ‘The Kitchen Apprentice’ is indeed a laudable project.
The Program began in 1996, and has since transformed trainees to world-class executive chefs.
It is a two year intensive program, which has produced chefs in Seychelles, Fujairah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai; people with humble backgrounds, who could have found difficulty getting employment, otherwise.
Usually, about 500 applications are received, 300 candidates considered for basic aptitude tests, and about 30 emerge; only a few fulfill all the pre-requisites to start the program.
Only a handful make it through two years of rigorous training to earn a Hilton Diploma, while others gain the training and are better equipped to get jobs worldwide.
This initiative is highly commendable and must be emulated by other hospitality companies.
One person off the unemployment list is ultimately a plus for the economy at large.
Thumbs up, Transcorp Hilton!
